killtheoldgods:

I plan to sit in
your coffee shops
all day waiting for
some Canadian muse
to deliver some words
to me and leave with
nothing. Out the window
no birds land backward
no girls in sweaters cross
the street or anything!
I’d expect this kind of
treatment from Quebec City
but you — you former capital
city I thought you knew
better. Now you’re clawing
for another shot, out of
everywhere the hours lie
hand-dipped in primary colors
on top of Mont Blanc — but
of course we’d rather forget
that name and history. It’s
the local culture at heart, what
guidebooks won’t say, what
I’m interested in, working
until 6 in the morning,
picturing us crossing each others’
paths for all time’s sake.
